2012 injury control teleconference series announced

ACICR is pleased to present the 2012 Teleconference Series. The teleconference series acts as a forum for educational opportunities, information sharing and discussion for stakeholders working in the field of injury prevention and community development across the province and country. Preventing Injuries: A resource for decision makers

ACICR recently published the document, Preventing Injuries in Alberta: A resource for decision makers. This document is intended to inform decision makers and stakeholders about current, significant injury issues in Alberta through a systematic presentation of 10 injury issues highlighting their affects in Canada and Alberta with evidence-based policies and strategies to effectively address the problem. Examples of injury issues covered include agricultural injury, alcohol & injury, falls in older adults, suicide and young & new drivers. Educator of the Year Award nominations open

The National Fire Protection Association's Educator of the Year Award recognizes educators for playing a lead role in making their communities safer. Winners receive a $1000 honorarium and travel to Las Vegas for an award presentation. Their local fire department also receives $1000 to support public education activities. The application deadline is February 24, 2012. Go to the NFPA website for more information.

Is It Worth It? PSA competition

SmartRisk and State Farm are sponsoring a PSA competition for youth called Distracted Driving - Is It Worth It? Submissions are due between March 1 and 16, 2012. The PSA can be in any creative medium youth would like to use (e.g. clay animation, digital, live presenters, graphics, etc.) Youth are encouraged to design a PSA to inform and motivate people to take steps that will help others be more aware of the issue. Over $5000 worth of prizes will be given out. Visit the project website for more information.
