Aboriginal Injury Prevention Networking Group
The Aboriginal Injury Prevention Working Group was formed for the primary purpose of addressing the need for coordinated action on injuries among the Métis Settlements and off-reserve Aboriginal population in both rural and urban communities in Alberta.
The Working Group was formed in 2006 as a result of collaboration between ACICR and members of key stakeholder organizations serving the needs of the Métis Settlements and rural and urban off-reserve Aboriginal people. The original Working Group members undertook a 15 month project that resulted in the development of an Aboriginal Injury Prevention Model. A complete listing of all members and their communities and/or organizations may be seen in the document titled “Aboriginal Injury Prevention Model.”
Subsequent to the conclusion of the Model development project, a smaller Steering Committee was formed from the original Working Group. This Steering Committee proceeded with a second project to develop a Five Year Strategic Plan based on the Model. Details of the Plan may be accessed by linking into the document titled “A Five Year Plan for Urban & Rural Aboriginal Injury Prevention in Alberta.”
